Jazzland (Jazz joint)
Jazzland is the oldest jazz club in Austria. When it first opened in 1972 the local jazz scene was quite small. The club’s policy of teaming up international stars with local talents and home-grown artists had a decisive effect in the establishment of Viennese cultural life. Today this modern Austrian institution sits in a 500-years old cellar bellow the ancient Ruprechtskirche – first mentioned in city documents in the year 948.
The place also offers a menu of solid Viennese cuisine, with all the trimmings – mouth-watering Wienerschnitzel and Cevapcici, delicious noodle dishes, traditional deep-fried cheese, and the place’s notorious – bean goulasch, a house specialty and perennial favorite of its guests. The wine list is small and select.
