Historiska Museet

The Swedish History Museum or Historiska Museet in Östermalm covers Swedish archaeology & cultural history from the Mesolithic era, to the Viking era & the Middle Ages. The Viking exhibition holds more than 4000 artifacts including the finds from the Birka Viking-trading center & which is the largest in the world. The museum’s collection of ecclesiastical art is also extensive spanning from the 12th century to the post-Reformation period.

The museum is also known for its “gold room” where a large number of gold & silver objects dating back to the Viking age & is generally a good chance to immerse into Swedish history. The museum is particularly good for children, as it is well adapted to younger ages with a space where they can play archaeologists for example. More
