Stortinget

Let’s see how we can fit together perfectly Stortinget and Nationaltheatret, two of the main attractions in Oslo. Taking the mini cruise boat across the Oslofjord to the City Hall (free for the holders of the 72 hours Oslo Pass, as are the most popular museums and attractions), we pass the Rådhuset (City Hall) and move further inwards. A few minutes later we face the beautiful open space of Eidsvolls plass.

Eidsvoll Square is flanked by the building of the Norwegian Parliament to the east, Karl Johans Gate to the north, and the Norwegian National Theatre & the Studenterlunden park to the west.

Starting from the east side and the impressive Norwegian Parliament Building or the Stortinget. A combination of architectural styles & influences which might not have won the original design competition of 1856. They did however win the hearts of the Norwegian representatives who in 1860 gave the final approval for its construction. The Parliament has free guided tours in English lasting about 45 minutes. They assemble outside the back door of the Parliament (on Akersgata). Right in the middle of Eidsvoll Square is the pond Spikersuppa. The pond becomes a wonderful ice skating rink in the winter. Right next to it lies the park of Studenterlunden. More
