Pierogi
Pierogi are traditional ravioli-style dumplings that are first boiled and then baked or fried in butter with onions. They are filled with all sorts of ingredients, from spinach, potato & cheese to meat & mushrooms or even fruits. You can also find pierogi with farmer’s cheese in soups. Fried onions are the most popular filling in Poland. All sorts of variations can be found in Russia, Hungary, Slovakia & Germany among others. In Poland pierogi is considered a national dish & especially in Krakow there is a Pierogi Festival every August.
