Wawel Hill
A historic landmark for every Pole, Wawel Hill is condensed an important location in the nation’s history. Inhabited since prehistoric times due to its advantageous position, it is the site of the first cathedral built in the city around 1000 AD. The Wawel Cathedral would serve as the scene for Royal coronations & burials for hundreds of years.
It is also the site of the Royal castle, official residence of the Polish Kings for centuries.The hill brims with art treasures & architectural beauty with its palaces, historic churches & houses creating an ensemble of attractions of such a density that is impossible to ignore.
The permanent exhibitions on Wawel Hill include, the Crown Treasury and Armoury, the Art of the Orient, an exhibition of Ottoman Turkish Tents. It is also a place of an Armoury exhibition, where shaft weapons and two-handed swords, representational halberds used by court and city guards are exhibited. Then there’s the Crown Treasury exhibition where the crown jewels and other royal insignia are kept. The State Rooms and the Royal Private Apartments are two more pieces of the Wawel Hill puzzle. More
