Swim in Falassarna until you see the sunset

Swim in Falassarna until you see the sunset. The south coast of Chania is not the only coast of Chania that has plenty to offer. The west side is also worth a visit especially its amazing beach of Falassarna voted many times in the past as the best beach in Europe. Its white sand & crystal waters have made this beach one of the top attractions in Crete receiving hundreds of visitors every day without ever giving you the feeling of being overcrowded due to its great length. Falassarna is spread into two main beaches,  the south called Pachiá Ámmos (thick sand) is the longest & is divided from the second and quieter one by a few sand dunes.

To the north, close to the archaeological site, there is another small bay facing south, this time with pebbles & rocky bottom. It’s a good choice when the winds are westerly. South of the main beach of Pachia Ammos there’s another sandy beach with a rocky bottom, called Livadi, where many lakes that host many birds are formed during the winter time. On the south side, near the small harbor of Limeniskos there’s another pebbly beach, perfect if you want to stay remote.

The area around Falassarna is a Natura-protected region while the ancient Falassarna was the main port of ancient Polyrinia which flourished in the 3rd century BC. The ruins of the Acropolis, the city walls, ancient tombs & a stone throne can still be seen today. The sunset at Falassarna beach is considered to be one of the prettiest sunsets in Greece. It would be best if you judge for yourself.
