Scacciate Catanesi. A delicious Sicilian cheese pie found in every self-respecting Sicilian bakery, one could also describe as a rustic pizza from Catania. The pie is stuffed with sausage and broccoli or and this is the most common in Catania with cauliflower, olives and provolone cheese … and then the variations with sausage and potatoes and fresh onion or vegetables and cheese.
The dough is made of whole semolina, which is used here in Sicily for most of the bread and pizzas, or a mixture of semolina and 0 flour for a softer result. The pastry must be very thin and it actually serves only as a shell for a filling that is always very tasty and rich.
