This marvellous structure blends elements of neo-Gothic architecture (facade) with key features of Baroque (ground floor) and neo-Renaissance (ceiling). After winning in the international competition with his plan, the architect Imre Steindl started his construction in 1885. More than 100.000 workers would be employed in the project which was inaugurated on the 1000th anniversary of the country in 1896. Steindl would pass away in 1902 just weeks before he could see his creation fully completed.
