Kässpätzle

Kässpätzle. If you are trying to find ways to avoid meat consumption in Munich while tasting its traditional menus you’ll probably end up with a dish that is not suggested for the ones that are lactose intolerant. This is the case of the Kässpätzle, translated into little sparrows. Don’t worry we are not suggesting that little sparrows are not included in the category of meat.

The name derives from the initial shape of the hand-made (before mechanical devices took over) noodles, the base ingredient of this dish. Spätzle are basically thin & lengthy egg noodles that are then mixed with cream, a generous amount of grated cheese, usually Emmenthaler, & are topped with some sweetish fried onions. This is the German & far more interesting version of mac & cheese.
