Enjoy Donauinsel

Enjoy the small paradise island of Donauinsel. The 21km long island can be reached from the city center in a few minutes via subway lines U1 & U6.  The visitor can find an expansive network of trails ideal for hiking, jogging, cycling, or skating. In case you visit the city during the summer months there are several bathing areas, a surfing school, a canoe rental & a 5.000 sq meters Water Playground.

There’s also a Climbing Park with platforms reaching up to 10 meters high offering wonderful views of the surrounding areas. During the summer nearly 300.000 guests a day enjoy 70 hectares of fields, 180 hectares of forest & 1.8 million trees & bushes. Its numerous bars, cafés, and restaurants on the Copa Cagrana, a humorist allusion to Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana, with Kagran being the 22nd district of Vienna next to the beach, is definitely another allure.

In the southern & northern parts of the island, there are extensive & free nude beaches. The Donauinselfest is an internationally well-known annual open-air festival & Europe’s biggest event of this kind with almost 3.000.000 visitors every year held at the end of June. The island is also the site of large concerts given by mega-stars like Madonna. The abundance of free WiFi spots & the island’s info center next to the water playground makes this recreational island a perfect getaway paradise from the hustle & bustle of the inner city.
