Sukiennice Cloth Hall

Krakow’s Medieval Town was among the first places chosen for the UNESCO World Heritage List. Its focal point is of course the Main Market Square, the largest medieval town square in Europe. The rectangular square is surrounded by historic landmarks like the Sukiennice Cloth Hall often described as the world’s oldest shopping mall.

The 14th century Gothic trade center finally took its name based on the textile trade although it was initially used for all sorts of products. Krakow’s Cloth Hall is today a place where someone can marvel not just the impressive architecture of the building but also the collections of the museum on the upper-floor, a division of the National Museum packed with 19th century Polish paintings & sculptures by artists like Jan Matejko & Wladyslaw Podkowiński. The Cloth Hall has been used to house many distinguished guests over the centuries & is still used to entertain monarchs & dignitaries to this day. More
