Groentesoep met balletjes (Vegetable soup with meatballs)
The Dutch love soups. Maybe its because of the weather or maybe its because they are very practical humans. Whichever the case its pretty common to try a soup in Amsterdam that will make you wanna try this at home. The vegetable soup with meatballs is obviously a very nourishing meal but its also a very tasty one. The dish can be a combination of whichever veggies you find in your fridge with small globes of minced pork and beef meat (half and half). In a restaurant the veggies you usually find in the soup are cauliflower, celery, leek, carrots and onions. Olive oil, pepper and salt, paprika and garlic, thyme leaves and parsley are also in there, creating a heavenly mixture of smells and flavors.
If you want to try the best soups in Amsterdam and especially soups with meatballs you go to the Voldaan Restaurant at the Jan Pieter Heijestraat in Amsterdam. Although this is a relatively new place (opened in 2013) it has already conquered a place in the hearts of Amsterdamers and for good reason. They do soups with meatballs and they do them good. You know what you’ll get and they never fail to deliver.
