More Beer please

More Beer, please. We have referred to some of the things about the connection between the Dutch capital and its favorite drink in the Must Do section. Obviously, everybody knows Heineken & Amstel. Being the birthplace of the two colossi can only mean one thing. Amsterdam must be a great place for beer. It has to be. Well, that is a fact but it is also a fact that nobody comes to Amsterdam to taste Heineken & Amstel if they can easily taste them back home.

It is also a fact that this city has several other smaller breweries nesting under its wing that are surely worth of a visit or a tasting. Great examples are the Brouwerij ‘t IJ which offers a series of delicious organic beers, the Da Prael brewery located in a historical building downtown or De 7 Deugden  , De Bekeerde Suster , Bierfabriek, which operates as both microbreweries & pubs.

You should also bear in mind that the country is located between the 2 brewing giants of Germany & Belgium….This basically means that you can easily find lots of beers from those countries as well. PINT Bokbierfestival is Netherlands’ largest beer event and is held annually at the end of October at Beurs van Berlage. Meibokfestival is held around the end of April, located at De Prael where one can find a variety of bock beers from around Europe.
